Went to Heck's with some colleagues on their first visit to Cleveland. At the recommendation of a friend, we went for dinner on a rainy Wednesday evening.
Through the entire meal the wait staff were incredibly kind and attentive!
I ordered a burger off their very extensive burger menu. It had bacon and a fried egg and honestly was a very solid burger. Fries accompanying were crispy and yummy. Good rainy day comfort food.
I also got a side of the crispy brussels sprouts. These were truly amazing. Simple and delicious, with an amazing brown crunch. The restaurant was dim so my photo of them is blurry otherwise I would have shared.
Friends seemed happy with their food; one had salmon which they enjoyed. Another raved about the mushroom ravioli. Third said their pasta (pictured) was good.
While the food and service here are great (this is what my 4 stars are for) the experience itself is sorta meh. Just like a tinder date where you expect great things but then they look nothing like their photos, the decor of Heck's was overall meh. A cool looking spiral staircase online covered in plants was lackluster in person, and the decor of the second dining room was again meh. The food on the plate (pictured) even looks sorta meh. I will say the daytime photos look far superior to the nighttime! Maybe all this was a dark rainy day issue?
Overall good food and service. Will I go back? maybe. -

I was visiting my friend in the Cleveland area and he took me to Heck's after my flight landed. It was surprisingly empty for a Friday night, maybe the thunderstorm kept people away.
We received prompt and friendly service. Our server helped give some beer and food recs and also let me taste a beer before ordering.
My friend and I shared some perogies to start, a Cleveland staple. I can't remember the last time I had perogies so can't really compare them to anything, but I really enjoyed them. Too many onions for my taste but the flavors were on point.
I went with the filet mignon kababs for my meal and was happy with my decision. Tender, flavorful chunks of steak with fresh vegetables. Everything complimented each other well. A delight to the tastebuds.
We skipped dessert. Two meals, four beers and an appetizer added up to a sizeable bill, but the freshness, quality, flavor and service was worth it in my opinion. Would have been a lot more in LA. I would return if ever in Cleveland again. -

Part 1: Went to the Heck's Express on Euclid Ave. on a whim after a walking tour of downtown Cleveland on the Saturday before Labor Day. Never been to any of Heck's locations before, but knew that they are known for their burgers. I decided to order the Ohio City burger with fries. My expectations were tempered seeing as this was a fast casual set up. I picked up my tray on the counter after a few minutes. The burger looked pretty ordinary. I sat down and took a bite... I was floored! That patty was perfectly cooked with the perfect amount of pink and juiciness, and it was perfectly seasoned! Back to the "ordinary" looking burger... I think that was the beauty of this burger - it was simple; not a "let's-see-how-many-cool-ingredients-and-flavors-we-can-stuff-in-this" kind of burger. Just a perfectly cooked prime quality beef patty, perfectly seasoned, topped with sautéed mushrooms and mozzarella cheese. Burger perfection! And the fries? Bad fries can ruin a good burger experience, but Heck's fries were a pretty darn good complement to their perfect burger! On our way out, I made a point to stop at the counter to let Joe know that I've unexpectedly just had one of the best burgers I've ever eaten, then I walked out the door.
Part 2: After our lunch, the wife and kids decided they wanted dessert, so we walked a couple of doors down to The Chocolate Bar to look at the menu. They walked in and ordered. Me? I didn't see anything I liked, so I traced my steps back to Heck's - so impressed with my lunch that I decided their desserts would probably be just as impressive. Joe was surprised to see me back. I ordered a salted caramel milkshake and Joe suggested a zucchini bread to go with it - he told me it was freshly baked that day. Okay, I thought. Haven't had zucchini bread in years and probably not the first thing I would pick in a lineup of desserts, but okay. The milkshake was great - no surprise... but what was a surprise was the zucchini bread. Sweetly crispy on the outside, and perfectly moist on the inside. Two great experiences on the same day. Heck's is definitely on my radar now.
Part 3: Two days later we spent Labor Day afternoon at Edgewater. I thought... the original Heck's in Ohio City isn't too far from us so we decided to stop by for dinner. Guess who I saw? Yes, Joe! He said he was glad we stopped by again and that we definitely won't be disappointed with the food there either. Ordered the Rocky River burger this time, and Joe suggested a s'mores milkshake for my two girls. Joe was right! They didn't disappoint! Perfect burger... and the girls liked their perfect milkshake, too! Oh, and the service? Couldn't have been more friendly and personable both times!
I don't know that we'll be making a habit of going to Heck's every two days, but safe to say they've definitely become our local favorites for a great burger and we'll by many more times! -

Eat inside, this place is CUUUUUUUUUTE and very instagram worthy. I've had the burger both times I've been here. Usually I don't like to order the same thing but the burger was so good I had to! I also cleaned my plate of every single fry. I was also on a diet, so that says a lot I think...

I came here for brunch with friends and we had an excellent time. I had only visited Heck's once for dinner and didn't have a big impression. But we had an excellent time! I was so happy to find street parking very easily at 11am on a Sunday. On a slightly overcast day, I forgot how beautiful the interior is. Heck's Cafe features a spiral staircase with hanging greenery and tinted greenhouse-like windows. We snagged a last minute reservation on Open Table, which I appreciated, since Cleveland is slowly becoming a non-reservation brunch town.
For brunch, I ordered the Benedict Tournedos, which came served on a baguette with hollandaise, egg and a small piece of filet mignon. It had a side of potatoes and fruit (the fruit was just cantaloupe and red grapes). I thought the hollandaise had an excellent, creamy flavor that hit the spot. I dipped all of my potatoes in it! The Bloody Mary I ordered may have been the best Mary I've ever had in Cleveland. The house mix wasn't overly spicy and was a perfect ratio to the vodka (no watered down drinks here).
Totally random, but on my way out of the bathroom, I peeped at their party room, which I was so unaware was BEAUTIFUL. It had modern acrylic chairs, a luxe chandelier, beautiful art, a TV and two long tables. I'm adding this to my list of places to use the next time I need a special event!
